LET — Excel Course
Give names to intermediate calculations and make complex formulas easier to read. Learn it step by step with guided practice on Excelquro.
Understand
A LET formula defines name/value pairs and then uses those names in a final expression. Choose names that describe business concepts—collection, target, variance—not meaningless letters. The final expression is the returned result.
Worked example
Collection and target are calculated once, named, and then divided. The business meaning is visible in the formula itself.
=LET(collection,SUM(B2:B10),target,SUM(C2:C10),collection/target)
Follow along
- Write the KPI in a normal formula first.
- Circle any repeated calculations.
- Replace each repeated calculation with a meaningful LET name.
- Use the names in the final expression.
- Compare the LET result with the original formula.
- Change a source value and verify both formulas still agree.
