LAMBDA — Excel Course

Create reusable custom worksheet functions. Learn it step by step with guided practice on Excelquro.

Understand

A LAMBDA has parameters followed by a final calculation. Test it inline before saving it as a named function. Use LAMBDA when the logic is genuinely repeated; a normal formula is often clearer for a one-off calculation.

Worked example

The same function can accept different target and actual values without rewriting the calculation logic.

=LAMBDA(target,actual,actual/target)(50000,45000)

Follow along

  1. Find a repeated business formula.
  2. Identify the minimum inputs it needs.
  3. Write the LAMBDA parameters.
  4. Put the final calculation after the parameters.
  5. Test it with two different input pairs.
  6. Only then consider saving it as a named custom function.
