Make report quality operational — Smart Study Module 18
Your report must survive the next refresh and a different person operating it.
Outcomes
- Define a release control checklist
- Keep sensitive information out of portfolios
- Measure before optimizing
Understand
Record input version, schema, source date, row counts, amount totals and exception counts. A production report also needs an owner and a safe recovery path. Use synthetic data in public portfolios.
Remove unnecessary columns, use correct types and inspect expensive visuals before changing formulas. A smaller file is useful, but correctness and an explainable model take priority.
Permission to open a report does not necessarily permit exporting or publicly sharing its source data. This course does not provide legal compliance certification. Treat access and retention as explicit organizational decisions.
Follow along
- Complete the QA checklist in the project kit.
- Verify no real customer names, phone numbers or account numbers appear.
- Check control totals after refreshing.
- Document one performance observation and how it was measured.
Worked example
Release gate: keys unique; orphan_count=0; rows=9; amount=98000; January=48000; labels and filters reviewed.
The source control total across all payment rows remains ₹98,000.
Practice
Return the all-period control total.
