Practice technical and stakeholder interviews — Smart Study Module 22
An interviewer is testing how you reason, not just whether you remember a function name.
Outcomes
- Explain joins, context and controls
- Answer progressively harder scenarios
- Recognize the limits of timed drills
Understand
For an Excel question, state the dataset grain, exact-match or aggregation choice and one edge case. For SQL joins, explain expected cardinality before writing the query. For DAX, identify the filter context and denominator.
Answer a stakeholder scenario by clarifying the decision and metric definition. If two reports disagree, compare period, population, source freshness and aggregation before blaming a colleague.
Timed practice is optional. A fast answer with no reconciliation is weaker than a correct, explainable answer. This app scores selected learning checks, not employability or interview success.
Follow along
- Rehearse an Excel missing-ID case.
- Explain why POS doubled after a join.
- Explain why a DAX measure changes with a branch slicer.
- Record one gap and schedule a review of the matching module.
Worked example
Question → assumptions → method → edge case → independent check
A safe January loan-grain report contains four loan records after aggregation and LEFT JOIN.
Practice
How many loan-grain rows should remain in the safe January report?
